SLRA Cog moors waste water plant

Welsh Water is investing over £48 million at Cog Moors Wastewater Treatment works to enhance the treatment process used at the works. The new addition to the works will enable your not-for-profit water company to generate even more renewable energy at the works. This in turn will help us to reduce our carbon footprint and keep customer bills low. What are we doing? The work involves the construction of an additional treatment process (an advanced anaerobic digestion plant), largely within the current boundary of the treatment works but including a small extension to the eastern side of the site, still within land owned and maintained by Welsh Water. The advance anaerobic digester will allow us to reduce our carbon footprint and enable more gas – known as bio gas – to be recovered from the waste. The gas will be used to help power the plant. We will of course ensure that protected species onsite will not be adversely affected as nature conservation is important in the surrounding area. What’s next? Main construction work will begin in January 2019 when we will be starting to put temporary measures in place to ensure the site can continue to run as normal while we build the new digestion units and install all necessary associated pipework and equipment. We will do our best to keep any disruption to local neighbours to a minimum whilst we carry out this essential work. We will keep you updated on our progress and let you know if the plan changes. Progress to date Our working area has now been cleared of excess soil and this has been removed from site. A new gas main has been installed which will enable us to provide fuel for the new process. The full site setup is complete, including welfare units to ensure a safe working environment for the workforce. Traffic management Please be assured that during the main construction work, our delivery drivers have been instructed to use the main roads to the site and to avoid the village of Dinas Powys. We will ensure the drivers will be reminded of this during the work. We are committed to keeping our customers informed of our work and as such, we have sent newsletters out to residents and businesses in the local area. I have attached a copy of the newsletter for your information. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
